Benefits of Spiral Welded Pipe and Cold Drawn Tubes

The spiral welded Pipe, also known as helical Welded tube, is manufactured with a heated spiral bending of steel or a coiled plate welded to a double-sided arc welding. Such a process of manufacturing steel tubes is highly efficient for producing tubes of larger dimensions, hence, spiral welded tubes are becoming popular.

Here are some of the benefits of Spiral Welded Pipe:

(1) For the same size of the straight seam pipes, spiral welded tubes have a larger diameter and thus, this process is used for manufacturing pipes with a larger volume.

(2) The welding a double-sided arc imparts high tensile strength to the spiral welded tubes, hence, they can bear a high pressure in comparison to the straight seam welded pipe of the same circumference. Also, for a given pressure the thickness of spiral welded pressures can be reduced to 10-25% than a straight seam pipe.

(3) The scope of error is less than +-0.12% in diameter, and the deflection and ellipticity are less than 1/1200 and 1% respectively. Also, there is no need for a sizing and straightening process.

(4) There is a lesser loss of material due to no cutting head and tails, thus, the rate of the utilization of the raw-material increases by 6% to 8%.

(5) In comparison to straight seam pipes, spiral welded pipes are more flexible to handle and easy to replace.

(6) There manufacturing costs lesser investment. They can be produced in a mobile-factory even at the site of construction where the pipeline is to be laid.

Disadvantages:

However, despite many advantages, the drawback of a spiral welded pipe is that there is a crescent bend Due to the usage of coiled steel as raw material. Also, the welding point is present in the elastic strip edge area, hence, it is difficult to remold welding quality.

Cold Drawn Tubes

A cold drawn tubes is generally, drawn coldly from a larger-mother tube which is produced separately by the HFS process. For this, the mother tube is put in a die and is drawn in called with no heat.

Such a unique process of manufacturing produces a tube that is high of tolerance and durability as compared to its parent tube.

Well, in comparison to a hot rolled tubing, a cold drawn tubing system has many advantages like a lesser number of equipment and machines, better straightness, and at last clean surface finish.

Industry experts often prefer cold drawn tubes to heated stainless tubes for their sleeker and smooth appearances.

However, the best thing about cold-formed steel is inexpensive to buy. Not only this you save a lot more because any need for expensive thermal treatments is eliminated.

Industrial Usage of Cold Drawn Stainless Tubing

Cold drawn tubes manufacturers in India are considered an ideal match for the aerospace, auto-mechanics, chemical production, power coms, FMCG, fluid engineering, gas and oil extraction, and water treatment industries.

To summarize any household or industry that requires high tolerance strength, concentricity, straightness can use cold drawn stainless steel.
